Our hair, our skin, and our nails are often our first line of defense against outside forces, and often our most obvious physical meter for signaling that there is a health problem. However, your hair can have a health problem without the rest of your body having a health problem. This is usually the result of products that have damaged your hair, such as dyes, but believe it or not, the problem is most commonly associated with your nutrition – or lack of it.

Dark green vegetables are great for your hair. This is because they are the best natural sources of vitamin A, and they also have high levels of Vitamin C. These vitamins help the body to produce more sebum, which is your hairs natural conditioner – natural conditioner produced by the body is better than any conditioner that you can get out of a bottle.

Aside from proper natural conditioning, your hair also requires a healthy scalp. Your scalp is essentially nothing more than skin, and skin benefits a great deal from Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Omega 3 is found in numerous foods, such as nuts, fish, and flaxseed. If your scalp isn’t healthy, your hair cannot be healthy.

You need protein. Protein strengthens the hair, and cuts down on the amount of hair that you shed. Note that hair is supposed to fall out to some degree. Old hair is shed as new hair grows in, and this is a very healthy process. However, if your nutrition isn’t good, you can find yourself shedding hair at a rate that leaves your hair way too thin, and you could even start finding bald spots. There are many, many great sources of protein, such as poultry, eggs, beans, red meat, and more.

Although you will see countless products advertised to make your hair grow faster, you should know that your hair will grow without those products – and most products do not increase the amount that your hair grows in a specific period of time. Getting your hair trimmed regularly to promote growth is also a myth – your hair will grow just fine even if you never have a trim in your life – as long as you are getting the proper nutrition.

Naturally, we all want clean hair, but the truth is that as long as you are getting the right nutrition for hair health, even if you seldom washed your hair, it would still actually be healthy – underneath the dirt, grime, and oil…it just wouldn’t look or smell very good.
