The Gym or the Home Gym – Does It Really Matter?
You’ve decided that you need exercise – or maybe your doctor has recommended exercise. Either way, you need an exercise program or workout. You start calling the local gyms to find out what is available, buy workout clothing, and head out to your first session. You find out that you really aren’t comfortable at the gym, and it doesn’t take long before you are skipping those sessions.
The fact of the matter is that working out at a gym or exercise class is not suitable for all personalities. Some people simply are not comfortable working out with a group of strangers – or even with people that they know well. The reasons for this discomfort really don’t even matter. If you aren’t comfortable in your exercise environment, you are not going to stick with it for any length of time, regardless of the need for it, or the benefits of it, and this is true with just about everything in life. You may think that you are required to go to the gym because they have the exercise equipment that you do not have. The truth is that you can purchase your own equipment and obtain the same results at home. There are home solutions for gym equipment, and many of those solutions are quite affordable, and take up very little room. The trick is to learn how to use the equipment effectively, so that you do reap the benefits of it.
As for classes, you can get quality DVDs that will lead any type of exercise class that you prefer. You can rent the videos to find out which ones work best for you before buying, and this is especially recommended if you have a DVD rental account such as NetFlix.
If you have problem areas that you aren’t sure how to correct through exercise, you may benefit from the services of a personal trainer, on a temporary basis. If you only need the personal trainer for one-one hour session, or even two, this is quite affordable, and quite beneficial.
In the end, just remember that you will not stick with any exercise program that takes place in an environment in which you are uncomfortable – from a mental standpoint. It is equally important to understand that there are dangers associated with exercise, and you can cause injury to yourself by doing exercises in the wrong fashion. Feel free to do your exercising at home, but learn what you need to learn at the gym or in a class first.
